Description
A little Bit of Country, a little bit of Motown and a little bit of Bluegrass
Biography
Mickey Cash’s tambourine flutters down in a shake, just above her hip. She raises her other hand to the microphone and sings.

“On the backwoods from the bottom of the south, there’s a place called Pleasant Grove. There’s a young man there who never did grow up. Some say he’s 100 years old.”

There’s something about her deep, soulful voice, the strong, sexy jawline and pensively set eyes that hint to bluegrass and country fans where her family history lies. Cousin to The Man in Black, Johnny Cash, and daughter to The Osbourne Brother’s guitarist Gordon Cash, Mickey sings the same way she lives her life: with everything she’s got.

Now Mickey’s working on a new album. She’s traveling America’s east coast with her song and spirit. Her music – a blend of Americana, country and rock n’ roll - tells the story of a tough life, dreams loved and lost, and making big decisions.

Mickey grew up in a swampy, small town near Richmond, Virginia. After graduating from New Kent High School, she married her sweetheart, traveling as far as California for her husband’s job.

Fate would eventually lead Mickey and music manager/vocal coach Leonard Reed (producer for Marvin Gaye and inventor of the Shim Sham Shimmy dance) to the same hotel poolside in Los Angeles, where Mickey sang.

Reed asked the young songstress if he could put her to work, and so her story with fame began.

She was reaching new heights quickly and raising her girls Rachel and Samantha. But times were still hard, and so when her husband said, it’s the music or me, Mickey chose her family.

She became an interior designer and started her own business, only to end up in divorce years later. A single mom, she sent one child to college, and settled down with the other on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Diagnosed with blood cancer soon after, Mickey fought for her life with the help of her mother Dorothy, who introduced the singer to organic foods and healthy eating.

Mickey recovered, looking and feeling better than ever.

“I know my future doesn’t have to be my history,” said Mickey, who sees herself as a believer in God, a mother, a musician, and a survivor.

Whatever you do..
Dont Miss this interview
We are talking to Jazz Legend
Ronnie Cuber
on
Thursday,March 24th ,2011--11pm EDT

Born: December 25, 1941 | Instrument: Sax, baritone

Ronnie Cuber is a baritone sax player strong enough to bring out the lyricism of the weighty instrument. While he plays traditional jazz in the style of Pepper Adams and Nick Brignola, Cuber also has led Latin sessions and appeared on dozens of pop recordings as an in-demand sideman. Cuber was born on Christmas, 1941, in New York. When he was 18, he appeared in Marshall Brown's Newport Youth Band at the Newport Jazz Festival. Three years later he was in Slide Hampton's groups and spent the 1960s working with Maynard Ferguson, George Benson, Lionel Hampton, Woody Herman and Lonnie Smith.During the next decade, Cuber performed on a slew of recordings and embraced distant ends of the woodwind family by playing flute and baritone sax on Eddie Palmieri's 1973 record, Sun Of Latin Music. While working with Lee Konitz in the late '70s, Cuber featured the clarinet and soprano sax alongside the baritone in his arsenal. He recorded his own Cuber Libre in 1976 and released a succession of traditional jazz records in the '80s and '90s, such as Live At The Blue Note and The Scene Is Clean (Milestone). In the 1980's he was a member of the Saturday Night Live Band for 5 years. The slew of pop musicians who have recruited easy-going Cuber for sessions include Chaka Kahn, Paul Simon. In 1998, Cuber played on and arranged The Three Baritone Saxophone tribute disc, Plays Mulligan on Dreyfus Records, and has arranged and recorded on 6 Mingus Big Band cd's for Dreyfus Records.
