Jan Michael's lifeway and musical expressions are based on the Native American Tradition of 'One Heart'. In short, it is the belief that we are equal regardless of the color of our skin, tribal affiliation, language we speak, income, gender, faith, nationality, etc. It is the recognition of Unity through Diversity.
In spring of 1994, he suffered two large strokes from a very rare genetic enzyme disorder and had blood clots pass through his heart and cause bleeding in the lungs. As a result from the strokes, he was paralyzed on the entire left side of his body. He received a miraculous healing and recovered 100% from the strokes.  read the full story of his healing here

Since then, Looking Wolf has risen to a world class Native American Flute Recording Artist with 17 CDs and 3 DVDs recorded on various Indie Record Labels - earning 47 National Award Recognitions. Most recently, Jan Michael won the awards - Record of the Year (2010 for "Breakin' Free") and for Artist of the Year (2009 for "The Looking Wolf Project") at the Native American Music Awards. He also won won the saught after Native American Music Award for Flutist of the Year in 2008 and the “Best Native Flute” award at the Indian Summer Music Awards in 2008 for his solo Native American Flute CD, "Unity". This made history as the first time ever a flutist won both within the same year. His prior work with the native flute ranges from Solo Flute, blues, jazz, classical, to Indie Rock with a full band. In 2007, his music climbed to no. 10 on the New Age Charts.

His 2009 release that was named Record of the Year is entitled "Breakin' Free", an edgy rock recording with his band that has a mix of top ten chart sounding rock songs with powerful vocal performances and some hard hitting instrumental tracks with his legendary native flute solos. A release with Spirit Wind Records out of Pulaski, NY, critics are hailing the recording as "the new voice of native rock" and "groundbreaking". Donald Blackfox, CEO of Spirit Wind Records, describes Jan Michael's latest rock effort as "some of the most amazing native flute performances in history. Jan Michael's vocals on Breakin' Free are world class as well, his new band is amazing!"

"Breakin' Free" is part of an effort by Jan Michael to give back to native communities by supporting drug and alcohol prevention for native youth. This new CD and anti-drug abuse posters were distributed to every reservation across the country in 2010. His band played at reservations for youth as well.

After a successful three-year journey into the rock genre with his Native American flutes and a full touring band, In 2010 Jan Michael Looking Wolf returns to his roots with the new recording “Message From the Sun”. Produced and released by the label High Spirits out of Arizona, Jan Michael again delivers masterful wooden Native American flute performances that took nearly a year to record. With over a dozen flutes, each with heartfelt musical expressions that range from solo flutes with a gentle canon sound, double flutes, three flute harmonies, and flute with upbeat natural world percussion. One of the most renowned native flutists in the world, Jan Michael takes his artistry of the instrument to a new level.

Also in 2010, he released "Live As One" a new single and best of 2 disks set along with a special music video filmed live during the Native American Music Awards that same year in Niagra Falls, NY.
Jan Michael is currently in the studio finishing up his new Rock LP with producer Keith Sommers and a slew of well-known musicians.  It is slated for release the Fall of 2011.  More details about this exciting project are forthcoming.

Back in 2007, Jan Michael was struck with a vision of a special CD that would help children with cancer in their journey. He gathered his family and friends around and shared about his idea of a children's story CD entitled, "Seven Rabbits" that would include stories from seven bunnies, each a color of a direction. Overcome with emotion, Jan Michael contacted producer Keith Sommers and immediately worked in the studio on the project. The result was incredible, a story CD that shares hope, healing, and inspiration based on both traditional native lore and contemporary settings with Jan Michael's flute music. Working through national organizations such as The Children's Cancer Association (CCA), The Native Peoples Circle of Hope, and most recently The Cancer Navigation Program, thousands of copies of Seven Rabbits have now been distributed to kids across the country. Jan was recognized with a "hero award" by the CCA in 2007 for this project. “Seven Rabbits” is a reflection to the power of Native American Music and the human heart.

Jan Michael partnered with Donald Blackfox and Spirit Wind Records in 2009 and produced a homeless benefit CD Entitled, Rise Up: Songs from Native America. The CD has music from 21 artists with an intention of raising awareness of the homeless crisis in America and raising funds for shelters.

Native Flute music by Looking Wolf is featured in the motion picture TILLAMOOK TREASURE that is now released onto DVD. He also has a part in the movie as a native flutist! In the modern day scene, Looking Wolf is playing on the beach with Floyd Red Crow Westerman (from the movie Dances with Wolves). For more information about the movie go to www.tillamooktreasure.com.
What to expect with Jan Michael in concert? For most venues he appears with his acoustic trio that performs a mix of native flute instrumental and folk based music. He also appears "solo" with beautiful solo flute and the story of one heart. With over 400 appearances across the country and international distribution of his music, Looking Wolf has become a very well known Native American Flutist and human rights activist.

Through lessons, workshops and university courses, Looking Wolf has taught over 5,000 people how to play the native flute. Even with all the success musically and the emergence as a nationally known performer, Looking Wolf maintains a focus on family and healing. For years, he studied the indigenous principles of One Heart with his life and music are founded on them.

“I would like to thank all my family, Tribe, friends, and fans for the great support of the music. During the journey here, I have found that it is true that we are all related…It is important to respect all cultures, after all, everyone and everything is born to the earth and sky. May you all be blessed and have a full life filled with good health, laughter and one heart"

Lou Pietosi has been playing music since he was old enough to hold drumsticks or blow a horn!  Now 51 years old,  Lou’s first love was music as he first watched Mitch Miller and Andy Williams back in the early to mid 60’s.  At age 10 he began playing trumpet in school, later teaching himself a little keyboards, guitar and his main instrument,  drums.   He has always loved singing and writing music as well. His influences over the years have included artists such as Chicago, CSN, Kansas, Dan Fogelberg, Loggins and Messina, Bon Jovi, styx and many more.

In 1977 he began playing with friends Billy and Nick Nardozi  in The Nardozi Brothers Oldies Band and in 1986, along with his brother Al and another set of brothers, Mark and Jake Zucco, formed SILENT PARTNER, the Classic Rock band which continues playing today in and around the Pittsburgh area.  In 1988 they added bass player Randy Van Hulten and these five guys have remained together ever since, with a period of time off as they each lived their lives and started families.  Reuniting in 2008, they now are recording both old and new originals and hope to complete a CD by mid 2012.  They JUST did a special benefit concert in their old hometown of Dormont Pennsylvania to raise money for the small local movie theater, which Lou hopes to turn into a theater for the performing arts.  Over 5,000.00 was raised at the event.  Married with two grown sons, Lou is also a Mortgage Banker by trade.

Warren Talks with Jon McAuliffe -His career as a Songwriter 10/03 by UpPhront Radio | Blog Talk Radio

Although first attracted to Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue and various classical composers (Rimsky-Korsakov; Ravel; Debussy) while still a toddler, country and pop music would also appeal to him in his formative years.  Then in the middle 1950s, after hearing Chuck Berry's "Wee Wee Hours," and "No Money Down," Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog," "Anyplace Is Paradise" and "So Glad You're Mine," Jon came to more clearly identify the sound he found most appealing:  Rhythm & Blues.

By his late teens, Jon had begun to investigate ethnic folk musics, urban and rural blues and various forms of jazz.  These all played into his own desire to create as he picked up a guitar for the first time and began writing his own songs, rudimentary though they were.

Major influences on Jon's songwriting and vocal style began in the 1950s and peaked in the 1960s and '70s.  They include Hank Williams, the early Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Gordon Lightfoot, Marty Robbins, the entire Jim Kweskin Jug Band, Tom Rush, Bob Dylan, Stephen Stills, Van Morrison, Tampa Red, Leroy Carr, Howlin' Wolf and a host of folk, blues and R&B musicians too numerous to note.

One of Jon's earliest attempts at songwriting was overheard in a Detroit folk music club called The Chessmate by a Canadian performer named Joan Anderson.  She encouraged Jon by telling him, "You stick with that, young man.  You've got something there."  Ms. Anderson later changed her name to Joni Mitchell and her encouragement has inspired Jon to this day.

Jon began performing professionally in 1965 at various coffee houses in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach areas while still in the U.S. Navy.  During his two years in Virginia, Jon performed and associated with Doug MacLeod, Emmylou Harris, John Pilla, Bryan Bowers, Jim Dawson and many other performers who helped form his tastes and influences.

Moving to New York in 1968, Jon formed the band Thirty Days Out with lead guitarist Jack Malken and bassist Monte Melnick in 1969.  Drummer Phil Lowe later joined the band after Jon stole him away from Charlotte, North Carolina rockers The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.  After leaving the band, Monte went on to become the tour manager for the Ramones.  Jack has been a well-known and respected recording engineer in New York City for decades.  Phil lives and works in Florida today with his wife and family.  Thirty Days Out recorded 2 albums with Warner Bros. Reprise (recently reissued by Wounded Bird Records in conjunction with Warner Bros. Reprise and available at Wounded Bird, Amazon.com and other sites) and opened for such acts as The Beach Boys, The J. Geils Band, George Carlin, Patti Labelle, Tom Rush, Captain Beefheart, Barbara Keith, Charlie Daniels & Jerry Corbett, among others.

Thirty Days Out disbanded in 1973 and by 1974 Jon was living and working in the Boston area.  With the help of artists like Robin Batteau, Ric Ocasek & Ben Orr (of The Cars) Jon began recording demos in the hopes of landing a solo recording contract.  Instead, his songwriting abilities caught the ear of United Artists who signed him as a staff songwriter in 1977 where he achieved limited success.

Tired of being chained to the commercial disciplines of a major publishing company, Jon formed a band called the Doubles with lead guitarist George Pratt in 1979.  By 1982 the band had run its course and McAuliffe and Pratt locked themselves up in various Boston area recording studios for the next four years where they recorded whatever suited their fancy. Jon & George issued a CD of this work in 2007.

By 1986 this creative explosion had reached its peak.  Exhausted and relatively uninspired, Jon hung up his guitar for 6 years before slowly coming out of a self-imposed shell, but only to write and perform Gospel music.  This lasted until 2007 when Jon once again began performing on local stages in the Northeast.  During the next 3 years Jon began performing publically to greater response than he'd ever received previously.  He would also begin writing the best songs he'd ever penned.

In 2009, with the help of producer Seth Connelly, Jon embarked upon a life long dream, recording a solo album.  His new songs echo the sum total of his musical influences and personal beliefs.  Audience response has been profoundly positive and Jon has enjoyed wide support and encouragement from a growing number of fellow musicians, performers and writers who he continues to share the journey and joy of creativity with.

On May 22nd Jon will release his new CD, "In This Present Form."
